King Alexander II announces that he has founded an abbey of Cistercian order at Balmerino in Fife, and has given lands of Balmerino and Coultra in Fife, with mother church of Balmerino and all things belonging to those lands, which Adam of Stawell, brother and heir of Richard Revel, quitclaimed by staff and baton into king's hands, for uses of Lady Ermengarde, the queen, his mother, in his full court at Forfar; he also grants 'Fethmure' (Barry). He shall maintain and warrant land for said monks against all men. Nothing can be demanded from monks in exactions, customs and services, save only prayers, throughout whole realm of Scotland.
