Patrick of Ryedale has given, granted and made firm by this his charter to Melrose Abbey, in free, pure and perpetual alms, for the salvation of his lord, King Alexander, and for the salvation of himself and for the souls of his ancestors and successors, 20 acres of land which apply to Rauenesfen (near Whitton, ROX) by stated bounds including the land which William of Ryedale gave to Matilda Corbet, his wife, in dowry, a pit which the monks made, and the land of Sir Patrick, free, unbound and quit from all terrestrial service, custom and secular exaction.
