Philip of Pitcox, with a good spirit, has granted to the monks of Melrose that they may cross the brook called Pressmennan Burn, which is the boundary between him and the same monks, because damage was often being done to their meadows and crops; the crossing is given by stated bounds; the whole of this land and meadow that is contained within the aforesaid crossing towards the monks (i.e. land in Stenton, ELO) he has given, granted and made firm by this his charter to Melrose Abbey, in free, pure and perpetual alms, for the salvation of his lord, Earl Patrick, and his heirs and for the salvation of his soul, his wife and all their relatives, quit and unbound from all terrestrial service, custom and secular exaction.
