Agreement: DCA DCD Misc. Ch. 5943

Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)

An agreement is formed between Arnold, prior of Coldingham and Walter of Lindsey, whereby, with the permission and wish of the prior, Walter shall have mass celebrated for his life in his private chapel in his court at Lamberton (BWK). He has sworn that the mother church shall lose nothing by this; none shall be admitted to the chapel except through a centre hall or his chamber; no chaplain shall serve the said chapel, but a chaplain of the mother church may celebrate mass there during one day or two. Walter shall celebrate there what the chaplain of the mother church wishes. Nothing shall be celebrated in the chapel on the five annual feasts, that is on the Nativity of the Lord, Purification, Easter, Pentecost, the church feast. If Walter shall go against his oath, or if the prior of Coldingham or the mother church are injured by this chapel, by the authority of the prior, it shall cease.
