A recognition was made of the bounds between the kingdoms of England and Scotland, that is, between Carham (Northumb.) and Hadden (ROX), by the oath of 24 knights of Northumberland, by the precept of King Henry [III] son of King John, named in full herein, who acknowledged by oath the ‘true and ancient marches’ between the kingdoms, and between Carham and Howden, stated herein.
