An agreement is formed between Melrose Abbey and Jedburgh Abbey, by the intervention, authority and consent of Sir William, bishop of Glasgow, whereby the abbot and convent of Melrose shall renounce all rights that they have or are said to have to the church of Hownam (ROX). The abbot and convent of Jedburgh can disturb nothing at any time related to the church of Hownam. Jedburgh Abbey also have granted to Melrose Abbey, they may not pay the remaining [money owed?] for the teinds of Raeshaw (ROX) and Hownam Grange (ROX). On the contrary, they are free, quit and immune from payment of teinds of the lands in that place and all other lands that they are holding at the time of this agreement in the parish or within the limits of the parish church of Hownam. Jedburgh Abbey shall find a suitable chaplain for the church who will celebrate mass for the souls of William, son of John, and Donancia his wife, and all the faithful departed in perpetuity in the place where the bishop of Glasgow shall ordain.
