Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)

Robert of Barnoldby, with the consent and wish of his heirs, has given, granted and established by this his charter, to Melrose Abbey, for the soul of his lord Ansketil of Ryedale, 20 acres of land, namely ‘Rauenesfen’ (near Whitton, ROX), by the bounds by which he and the monks of Melrose perambulated it, stated herein, until the land which William of Ryedale gave to Matilda Corbet his wife in dowry, free and quit from all earthly service, custom and secular exaction. So that his alms will be firm and stable in perpetuity, his lord Patrick of Ryedale granted his petition and established it with his charter.
