Robert of Bernham has given granted and by this his present charter established to Melrose Abbey in free and perpetual alms, that fishing in Berwickstream over the River Tweed, which Master David, his brother, then chamberlain of the lord king, bought from Ralph of ‘Hauuill’, falconer of the lord king, and gave to Roger, his (Robert’s) brother and his heirs, from which fishing Roger endowed to Christina, daughter of Adam Marshall, his wife, in her lifetime, and after her death, this fishing fell to him (Robert) by hereditary right. Having and holding in perpetuity, as freely and quietly as attested in Ralph of ‘Hauuil’s charter to the said Master David.
