Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)
William de Coleville, son of Thomas de Coleville, for the welfare of the souls of Thomas, his father, and Ada, his wife, has granted, and by his charter established, to Vaudey Abbey, in free and perpetual alms, the fourth part of Dalmellington (AYR), called ‘Keresban’, which his father, T[homas], held and which the monks held by the gift of his father, rendering five marks yearly, for all service, custom and secular exaction, that is, two and a half marks at Martinmas and two and a half marks at Pentecost. If it happens that the king of Scotland wishes to relax or give away the said ferme, William and his heirs will grant that freely.
