Charter: DCA DCD Misc. Ch. 1341

Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)

Roger, bishop of St Andrews, has confirmed by his present charter those churches that Prior Bertram and the monks of Durham had to their own uses before he was promoted to the bishopric; and besides, out of reverence and love for St Cuthbert, and for the salvation of the soul of King William [I] and all his heirs and successors, and for the salvation of the souls of all the his own predecessors and successors, he has granted, and made firm with the defence of the present document, that, on a vacancy in other churches which they have in the diocese they may, without any other presentation, convert them at will to their own uses, for the maintenance of Christ’s poor and guests, and hold them peacefully in their own hand. Reserving the episcopal dues.
