Charter of Walter son of Alan, the king's steward, renewing his gift to Melrose abbey of the territory of Mauchline and the church of of St Michael there. In addition, he has remitted the annual payment of five merks in return for the territory, to which payment the monks were bound by the terms of his own (previous) charter and that of his father. Walter has also released the church's free land from his customary exercise of hunting and the capture of birds.
