Charter: NRS GD55/75

Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)

Peter of Corrie, in good devotion by divine command, restored a brother to the house of Melrose who was received kindly by the abbot and convent of the same house, [and Peter did this] so that he, on behalf of the house of Melrose, will reside in everything as a brother and participant in all the benefits of the same house. In this, he will be able to be consulted and aided to prevail, and henceforth he will not in any dimension whatsoever be adverse to the same house or the brothers or the men of the aforesaid monks. Additionally, a disagreement was put to rest between them in the year 1205 concerning these lands, viz. ‘Dalhengan’ and Bargower (AYR), which lie between the river running from ‘Duueloc’ and ‘Saxenoc’. Peter quitclaimed whatever rights he had or was able to have in these lands for him and his heirs to Melrose and presented this his present charter on the great altar in the presence of the convent of Melrose, his brothers. Accordingly, he affirmed to the house of Melrose a third part of his substance whether he comes to the house alive or dead (i.e. becomes a monk or is buried at the abbey).
