Agreement: DCA DCD Misc. Ch. 788
Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)
An agreement was formed between the prior and convent of Coldingham and Earl Waltheof and the sons of Swain the priest, that is, Patrick the dean, Edgar, Eustace, Edward, Alexander, Robert and Roger, whereby the prior and convent granted to Eustace 2 ploughgates of land in Renton, to hold in feu and heritage, which his father held before in the whole villa at ferme, for the same service which his father made for the land. This was made on condition that Eustace make an oath on the Gospels, and if Jordan, son of Swain, or any other brought false charges against the monks of any right which Swain claimed in Coldinghamshire by charters or other customs, Earl Waltheof, Eustace, and the sons of Swain shall be between the monks and those aggressors, so that they are not bothered further. The following are pledges for this: Patrick, son of the earl, Patrick, brother of the earl, Waltheof of Prenderguest, Edward of Oldcambus and his brother, William.
