Brieve: BL Cotton Ch. xviii.4
Description (from People of Medieval Scotland)
King Alexander II commands his sheriffs throughout his land that when monks or brothers of Melrose will have approached them complaining about any malefactors who will have stolen their work animals or livestock they should prosecute pleas of monks and brothers just as his own plea. He takes brothers of Melrose and their men, bearers of present letters, under his firm peace and protection, firmly prohibiting that no one shall cause them injury or harm, on pain of king's full forfeiture.
