Isabel, wife of William of Ryedale, has given, granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the salvation of Sir Patrick of Ryedale, Walter, his son, and William, her spouse, and for the salvation of herself, and for the souls of all their ancestors and successors, that oxgang of land in the territory of Whitton (ROX) which her father, William, persona of Hownam, bought from Geoffrey the cook and donated to her with Geoffrey’s charter and with the confirmation of Sir Patrick of Ryedale, by stated bounds which include the dowry of Matilda Corbet, in free, pure and perpetual alms, unbound from all terrestrial service, custom and secular exaction. She and her heirs will acquit them from all service in perpetuity.
